In addition to our two student-run enterprises, ‘Cane Records and Cat 5 Music and internships, Frost School of Music students have numerous other opportunities to get their music industry careers started while they study with us. Some of these opportunities are:

Music Industry Association (MIA)

The Music Industry Association is our student organization for those with an interest in the music and entertainment industries. Students can gain both experience and the opportunity to network with industry professionals through local, regional, and national activities and events.

GRAMMY U

GRAMMY U is a unique and fast-growing community of full-time college students, primarily between the ages of 17 and 25,  who are pursuing a career in the recording industry. The Recording Academy created GRAMMY U to help prepare college students for their careers in the music industry through networking, educational programs, and performance opportunities. GRAMMY U is designed to enhance students’ current academic curriculum with access to recording industry professionals to give an “out of the classroom” perspective on the recording industry.  The Florida Chapter of The Recording Academy has a very active GRAMMY U section and many of our students are actively involved with the organization.

Hurricane Productions

Hurricane Productions is the UM student-run organization responsible for planning free on-campus entertainment. Students have the opportunity to get involved in booking talent and promoting events.

WVUM

WVUM is the UM college radio station.  Students have the opportunity to work as on-air personalities and in the administrative office.

UMTV

UMTV is the UM college television station.  Students have the opportunity to work with the musical components of television programs.

The Miami Hurricane

The Miami Hurricane is the UM college newspaper.  Students have the opportunity to write articles about music-related news and events.
